About Jess

I hold a Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Montclair State and an MSBA in Organizational Behavior from Washington University’s Olin Business School, built on a philosophy degree that still shapes how I think about everything. I’ve conducted 250+ in-depth research interviews, built talent assessments and competency models for Fortune 500 companies, instructed university-level courses in leadership and negotiation, and conducted multi-year research on topics like wellbeing and human connection.
What is I/O Psychology?
Industrial-Organizational psychology is the scientific study of human behavior in the workplace. It applies psychological principles to solve workplace problems, optimize organizational performance, and improve employee well-being.
Businesses hire I/O psychologists to produce evidence-based reports that diagnose workplace problems and recommend solutions to improve performance, culture, and employee well-being. We bridge the gap between science and business, translating complex behavioral data into actionable business strategies.
On the personal side, my passions include research methods, live music, dogs (especially mine), philosophy, travel, good jokes, learning, dancing, and the jam band community culture.

Deep listening to understand what your unique system needs.
Organizations
I provide supported and positive spaces for truthful discovery and aligned action. We co-create the path together, and I always have your back.
I make sure that we are aligned. This includes translating the science so that you understand the purpose, process, and product of my work.

My Philosophy
I am not a traditional academic, coach, or consultant. My systems view, combined with philosophical training, means I think outside the box.
And because experience is the best teacher, I've also lived outside the box. I have lived in nine states, attended and taught at multiple universities, and worked in a variety of industries-- all to more deeply understand how things work, and why. My work history includes years in the events industry producing festivals and concerts nationwide, as well as roles in non-profits, restaurants, education, medical settings, and retail.
The diversity is intentional.
Diversity brings a special flavor of depth. My lived experiences not only let me connect deeply with people, they also act as springboards for deeply examining universal concepts, both scientifically through research (I've published academic papers based on my events work) and through my writing, which you can view on my Substack.

What my philosophy rests on, the origin of Social Synth's name, is this fact:
Reality is socially constructed.
Conflict and confusion--whether at work, in our personal lives, or in ourselves--comes when our ways of understanding are out of alignment. But there is no single, objective reality we can use to align. There is no objectively right, proven way of doing things-- which means there are no one-size-fits-all solutions or paths.
It is a basic principle of philosophy, psychology, and even across neurosciences that there is no objectively understood Truth. I believe the closest we can get to Truth, and meaning, is to triangulate across people's different ways of experiencing and understanding things.
To align, we need to drill down to the fundamentals. We need to de-construct to restructure. To do this, I get at the heart of that socially constructed reality. I dissect the world and figure out how different people see it come together. I study experiences, viewpoints, and knowledge, both scientifically and through working with clients, to deepen understanding of what is actually happening, what it means, and how to address it.
I triangulate and synthesize using philosophy, social science, experiential psychology, and writing. Then I apply the results in research, coaching, and consulting.
When you work with me, you get the cumulative knowledge of my reality synthesis. And when I work with you, your view becomes part of my synthesis. We co-create, empowering our realities through synthesis.
